I might go back and finish it one day but it got bogged down before I was half way through and I just couldn’t keep going... I did like the other books in this series but maybe there’s just too much to get your head around in this one, or maybe I’m not in the mood for it? Too much time spent in details you don’t need.

Disappointing after the first two. Really noticed the lack of storytelling prowess. Everything was explained via long conversations between characters and even then the relationship between deities, gods, primal was overly complex and ultra confusing in a messy, rathe than clever way. Last quarter was ok, but has lost something for me since the first. Lacks the feeling of genuine high fantasy given the characters’ use of certain slang terms. Relationships needed to be more multi-dimensional by now. There was no evolution to Poppy and Casteel’s or even Poppy and Kieran’s relationships. Poppy became less believable the more attitude she got. I wanted to see Poppy continue to emerge from the oppression of being the maiden, but I found she did so in a petulant, surly way that seemed immature and made me annoyed with her. It lost its charm in these ways for me.

Got bored in the middle

I might go back and finish it one day but it got bogged down before I was half way through and I just couldn’t keep going... I did like the other books in this series but maybe there’s just too much to get your head around in this one, or maybe I’m not in the mood for it? Too much time spent in details you don’t need.

Poorly crafted

Disappointing after the first two. Really noticed the lack of storytelling prowess. Everything was explained via long conversations between characters and even then the relationship between deities, gods, primal was overly complex and ultra confusing in a messy, rathe than clever way. Last quarter was ok, but has lost something for me since the first. Lacks the feeling of genuine high fantasy given the characters’ use of certain slang terms. Relationships needed to be more multi-dimensional by now. There was no evolution to Poppy and Casteel’s or even Poppy and Kieran’s relationships. Poppy became less believable the more attitude she got. I wanted to see Poppy continue to emerge from the oppression of being the maiden, but I found she did so in a petulant, surly way that seemed immature and made me annoyed with her. It lost its charm in these ways for me.

I devoured the first two books and then had to wait months before the release of Crown of Gilded Bones, but it was truly worth the weight. These characters will stay with you as you read the book and long after. I love that Poppy has found her strength and power and the unbreakable love that she has with Casteel. I expected this book to be the end of the series. When will book 4 be released???
